The Azores Civil Protection says that seven incidents were recorded until the morning of 6 August, including three floods in backyards and residences in Vila Franca do Campo and one in a house in the municipality of Nordeste (São Miguel), in addition to a flood in a house in Velas and a collapse on a regional road in the Nortes area (São Jorge), which has already been partially cleared.

"In the municipality of Praia da Vitória, the campsite became unusable," the agency said in a statement.

The Regional Civil Protection and Fire Service of the Azores recommends that the population follow the weather forecasts and warnings issued by the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) and adopt appropriate self-protection measures.

Orange warning

Due to bad weather, with precipitation and thunderstorms, the islands of the Central and Eastern groups are under an orange warning, the second most severe on a scale of three, after having been at the yellow level, the least severe.

In the Eastern group (São Miguel and Santa Maria), the warning is in effect until 9 pm local time (10 pm in Lisbon). During the same period, a yellow warning is also in effect due to wind.

In the Central group (Faial, Pico, São Jorge, Terceira and Graciosa), the orange warning for precipitation is in effect until 12:00 pm local time (1 pm in Lisbon), a period during which the yellow warning due to wind is also active.
