The earthquake struck shortly after 1am on 15 August, with its epicentre in Alhendín, just south of Granada city.

Spain's National Geographic Institute (IGN) recorded the earthquake at magnitude 5.0. The tremor was widely felt in Granada city and across the surrounding metropolitan area.

Reuters reported that the earthquake damaged homes and cars, while regional authorities confirmed that no injuries had been reported. Emergency teams were sent out during the night to check affected buildings and secure areas where damage had occurred.

The earthquake was felt well beyond Granada. Europa Press, citing Andalucía's 112 emergency service, reported that more than 80 calls were received following the tremor, with people reporting feeling it across most of Andalucía. The calls came from Granada and several other provinces, although no reports were received from Cádiz or Huelva.

Following the earthquake, the Andalusian regional government activated the emergency phase of its seismic risk plan in Granada. Authorities said firefighters and police were inspecting and securing locations where damage had been reported.

The earthquake occurred at 01:04am (local time) and was recorded at a depth of around 10 kilometres.

Inspections continued on Saturday morning, particularly in Granada city and the nearby municipalities of Ogíjares, La Zubia and Armilla, where reports of damage were concentrated.
