Analysis by the Council on Criminal Justice said the homicide rate has likely reached a historic low. Carjacking, residential burglary and vehicle theft have also fallen sharply in recent years, reflecting a broader decline in crime across the country.

The Council on Criminal Justice said homicide has fallen 51% since 2022, while carjacking is down 73% since 2023. Residential burglary has dropped 56% since 2018, and vehicle theft is 51% lower than in 2023. Researchers said the broad decline across cities suggests wider national factors are influencing crime trends beyond local policies.
