Lagos, Vila do Bispo, Portimão, Tavira, São Brás de Alportel, Castro Marim, and Alcoutim are the municipalities that have submitted projects to Algarve2030 in this area so far, according to the Algarve Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR).

According to the regional body, the applications cover projects involving the construction, rehabilitation, or conversion of buildings for social housing and address needs identified in the respective Local Housing Strategies.

The investment aims to increase the supply of public housing in a region facing housing-access challenges, amid pressure on the housing market.

Support for social housing is part of a broader investment strategy to address housing needs in the Algarve, aiming to enhance local capacity “to meet the needs of the population.”

The second application window for the “Algarve-2026-13 – Social Housing in the Algarve Region” call for proposals runs until 30 March 2027, allowing for the submission of new projects within the limits of available funding, the CCDR/Algarve noted.

The first phase of the call for proposals ended on 15 August and featured an indicative budget of €28 million from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

The call supports the construction, rehabilitation, or conversion of buildings intended for social housing, provided they align with the respective local housing strategies. The operations benefit from a co-financing rate of 30% to 70% and must meet applicable requirements for environmental sustainability and energy efficiency.

According to CCDR/Algarve, in addition to this call for proposals, an extra €32 million is earmarked for future Algarve2030 funding opportunities aimed at affordable housing, student accommodation, and official housing.

This support is included in the Portugal2030 Annual Call Plan, the regional commission concludes.
