The €5.5 million project would keep the market at the heart of the site, with more stalls than it has now. It would also include shops, storage for traders and a space for concerts and other events. The design would lead people leaving the car park through the market, giving them a chance to see what is on sale.

As Algarve Marafado reported, the plans were presented during a visit to Carvoeiro on Saturday, 26 September. Mayor Luís Encarnação described the project as something local residents have wanted for a long time.

There is still some way to go before work begins. The project needs approval from the council and municipal assembly, as well as clearance from the Court of Auditors. If those steps go ahead as expected, construction could start in the second half of 2027 and take around two years.
