Better Times

I wrote Better Times during one of those interminable lockdowns in the Covid years so although it was inspired by the depths of sadness and frustration, I was also hopeful that times would improve and get better.

Although we couldn’t see the end in sight, deep down we knew that somehow life would improve and move on as normal again.

Hindsight has shown us that it did, but maybe in different ways than we imagined, as time never stands still. I wrote this is in minor and major keys which was my way musically of explaining the bad stuff (minor) for the verses and then abruptly to major for the chorus to be happy and hopeful.

Better Times appears on both the Mnemonics albums and the orchestrated version in Mnemonics Part 2 I think really reflects so many of those feelings and emotions we all experienced at the time.

All of those feelings are not that far away still so I’m not going to dwell on them now suffice to say that I’m very pleased it’s over. And particularly those lockdowns!
