The facility, which covers an area of 713 square metres and has 15 service counters, is the 82nd such unit in the country and was the result of an investment of about €1.9 million, entirely financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR).
During the two weeks leading up to the official opening ceremony, the centre attended nearly 2,000 service requests.
With the new facility, there is no longer a need for residents to go to other municipalities or to the city's historic ecentre, which makes it easier to access the facility and to park.
Digitalised services
This initiative is included in a larger set of funds from the PRR assigned to the municipality of Olhão, the amount being approximately €40 million and being distributed among projects relating to road access, public housing, assistance to local businesses, and healthcare.
At the opening ceremony, the Minister Assistant for State Reform, Gonçalo Matias, stated that the drive to digitalise public services would not result in the removal of in-person services; the government intends to achieve a total of 85 “Loja do Cidadão” outlets and 1,200 “Espaço Cidadão” sites across the country by the end of the year.
