The Tourist Information Office and the Citizen Space will be located in the Animacorpus building, which was acquired in February 2025 for approximately €400,000. The renovation work, put out to public tender with a budget of €118,500, has a six-month completion timeline.
Tondela Mayor Carla Antunes Borges explained that the goal is to modify the building’s main façade (facing the Caramulo Museum) and “enhance its appearance by opening it up to the outside and utilising three storefronts on the left side.”
In doing so, the municipality aims to “create a multifunctional space dedicated to tourism” and incorporate the Citizen Space, she highlighted.
Carla Antunes Borges presented the project early Monday evening, following the Municipal Assembly session.
“We will have a top-quality space, aligned with the positioning we have established for the Caramulo brand—a brand that belongs to everyone, to Tondela, and serves as a powerful tool for promoting our territory,” the Social Democratic mayor emphasised.
The Citizen Space, which will be built from scratch, will provide various public administration services to residents, saving them from travelling to the municipal seat.
The Tourist Information Office—currently housed in a wooden structure near the Caramulo Museum—will focus on promoting the mountain area and the municipality, and will offer local products for sale. Carla Antunes Borges emphasised the importance of positioning the Caramulo brand to meet international challenges, continuing to invest and reinforce quality in collaboration with the Parish Council.
