The demonstration—arranged jointly by the Guard Professionals’ Association (APG/GNR) and the Police Professionals’ Union Association (ASPP/PSP) using the slogan 'For a safe Portugal for all!'—will start with a meeting outside the Ministry of Internal Administration (MAI), after which the demonstrators will march to the Lisbon City Hall.
The representative organisations argue that the pay and professional status of their staff are closely tied both to their motivation and to the readiness and quality of the security services they offer to the public.
The protest in the capital signals the beginning of a series of street actions which will spread to different areas of the country in the coming weeks; the protest movement is expected to end in a future National Demonstration, the exact date and details of which the two organisations will announce at a later stage.
