“At Lisbon Airport, where passenger traffic increased by 19.2% compared with 2025, the average maximum waiting time in September was 68 minutes, the lowest figure for the same period in the past four years and a 47% reduction compared with 2025,” Luís Neves said during a parliamentary hearing on the detailed discussion of the Government’s proposed 2027 State Budget (OE2027).

The Minister stressed that the results achieved in border control at national airports were “thanks to increased PSP staffing levels, the reorganisation of procedures and investment in new equipment”.

According to the minister, by September 2026, the number of arrivals and departures had increased by 15.7% compared with 2025 and by 23.9% compared with 2023, exceeding 18.6 million passenger movements.

“It is also in recognition of the crucial work these professionals carry out for the country’s security, economy and tourism that we have proposed an increase in the border service allowance, providing for €160 this year and €230 in 2027 for eligible PSP and GNR personnel,” he added.
