The Championships took place over 8 days in September in Llandrindod Wells.

Our men’s Triples team got a well-earned Silver Medal playing against a very strong Ireland team. The Ireland team went on to win the overall Championships. The Triples team consisted of Amar Nath, Joaquim Cruz and Geoff Worrall. This gives the men’s Triples team entry into the World Championships 2027 to be held in Leamington Spa in England.

The overall Portugal team consisted of 5 ladies and 5 men playing in a number of bowling formats. Whilst the rest of the Portugal team did not manage any more medal places, it did manage some notable wins against good international opposition. The ladies team were Tilly Fernandes, Sharon dos Santos, Christine Worrall, Dawn Malin and Mary Mullane, managed by Julie Moulds. The other members of the men’s team were Ferdi Alves, Johnny de Sousa and Russ Malin, managed by Glen Moulds.

Portugal is now looking to build on this success by attracting more people to the sport. We would like to see more young people and Portuguese having a go at this sport at any of our local clubs.

The Portugal team is based at Alvor Bowls Club. There are also bowling clubs near Lagos, Almancil and Tavira. The secretary of Bowls Portugal (davewood@wspcl.co.uk) can give further details to anyone who is interested in taking up a new sport.
