The president of the Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera (IPMA), José Guerreiro, announced the excessive growth of algae in the Óbidos Lagoon will be studied as part of a candidacy to be submitted to Mar 2030.

The algae in question, called ostraceans, “are normally a good sign of ecosystem health but in this case, it’s excessive and abnormal”.
