Diesel, the most used fuel in Portugal, should drop by two cents and petrol should be half a cent cheaper, according to data from ACP.
When you fill up, you should pay €1.584 per litre of regular diesel and €1.659 per litre of regular 95 petrol, taking into account the average prices practised at the pumps on Monday, released by the Directorate-General for Energy and Geology (DGEG). Next week will be the second week of price drops for diesel and the third for petrol.
This week, diesel fell 2.8 cents and petrol 1.4 cents. A drop that could have been much more significant if the Executive Branch had not taken advantage of the forecast of a seven-cent drop in diesel and a 3.5-cent drop in gasoline to adjust fuel taxation and reduce the discount on the Tax on Petroleum Derivatives (ISP), taking advantage of the anticipated sharper drop in fuel prices.
Thus, from December 1st, the ISP on petrol will be 49.7 cents, compared to the previous 48.12, and on diesel, 36.16 cents compared to the previous 33.72. Thus, for each litre of petrol you will now pay 65 cents in ISP (a tax on fuels) and carbon tax (an increase of 1.6 cents), and for each litre of diesel 52.83 cents, or 2.4 cents more. In terms of taxation, there is still the 23% VAT.
