According to statements from both law enforcement agencies, a total of 304 people have been arrested since December 18 for driving with a blood alcohol level equal to or greater than 1.2 grams/litre: 182 by the GNR and 122 by the PSP.
In its ‘Christmas and New Year 2025/2026 Operation’, the GNR (National Republican Guard) inspected 31,861 drivers, “of which 326 were driving under the influence of alcohol, and of these, 182 were arrested for driving with a blood alcohol level equal to or greater than 1.2 g/l. A further 60 people were arrested for driving without a legal license.”
“Of the 5,073 traffic violations detected, the following stand out: 696 for speeding; 144 for driving under the influence of alcohol; 122 for lack of or incorrect use of seat belts and/or child restraint systems; 125 for improper use of cell phones while driving; 691 for lack of mandatory periodic inspection; 219 for lack of mandatory civil liability insurance.”
The GNR (National Republican Guard) military police recorded 927 road accidents, resulting in three fatalities, 16 serious injuries, and 232 minor injuries.
The PSP also recorded, in the last four days and in its area of responsibility, "678 road accidents, resulting in 227 injuries (12 serious injuries and 215 minor injuries) and, regrettably, 1 fatality."
