The alert for the incident was given at 6:37 pm by a nearby fisherman, the AMN indicated in a statement.
Elements from the local command of the Portimão Maritime Police, the Albufeira Volunteer Firefighters, and the Albufeira municipal civil protection service were dispatched to the scene.
The Maritime Police, in collaboration with the firefighters, removed the body to the Albufeira marina, where the death verification report was carried out, it reads.
The body was transported to the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences of the Western Algarve by the firefighters.
The young man disappeared on 11 June in the afternoon while swimming at the beach, accompanied by another 19-year-old, also of British nationality, who "reportedly left the water on his own to ask for help," the maritime authority specified at the time.
The AMN also announced today that the British consulate in Portimão was contacted and that "information about the incident was transmitted."
