Forest loss declined across all six of the country’s major biomes, marking a nationwide reduction in deforestation. The findings come as Brazil seeks to strengthen its environmental credentials ahead of international climate discussions and longer-term conservation goals.

Researchers said Brazil’s reduction in forest loss reflects continued progress in curbing deforestation nationwide. The Atlantic Forest recorded the largest decrease, while the Cerrado remained the biome with the highest level of forest loss. While the Amazon and other biomes recorded declines, the Cerrado remained the most affected region for vegetation loss.
