The museum is housed in the historic Fábrica do Inglês (English Factory) in Silves. This assurance was given by the real estate developer Carvoeiro Branco. The company assumes responsibility for restoring to the collective memory of the Algarve what is considered one of the most important industrial museums in all of Europe.
The factory

The factory was founded on 2 January 1894 by Avern, Sons & Barris, who leveraged strong ties with the Catalan and London industries. In 1918, Victor Sadler, known as "the English gentleman," took over, bringing modernisation and making the factory a key reference in Portugal's cork sector. Converted into a museum in 1999, it retained a rare, intact production line. Its historical value led to the Luigi Micheletti Award for Best Industrial Museum in Europe in 2001, when it surpassed 100,000 visitors.
Emotional and social significance

The prolonged closure created a deep void in the region, and the current rehabilitation project now seeks to definitively reverse this scenario.
In a press release, Elsa Lopes, Director of the Cork Museum, highlights the emotional and social significance of this new phase for the local community: “Returning this museum to Silves is returning a part of itself to the city. The Fábrica do Inglês (English Factory) was never just a factory; it was the place where generations worked, built, and belonged. Bringing it back, with the care it deserves, is the most demanding and meaningful commitment we have undertaken in this project.
New electronic portal

With the aim of positioning the institution in the digital sphere, Carvoeiro Branco challenged the artist Davi Kampu5 to design the visual identity for the space's new electronic portal (www.museudacorticasilves.pt). The creator, currently one of the most relevant voices of the new wave of national artists with international projection in European capitals and the United States, was inspired by the museum's retro, historical logo. The contemporary aesthetic implemented seeks to safeguard the archive without allowing it to stagnate, positioning the Cork Museum as a dynamic cultural hub attuned to current artistic creation.
The opening night

For the opening night, the cultural agenda includes the show "Resonances — Concert for double bass and contemporary poetry", at 7:30 pm. The performance brings together the interpretation and voice of Cristina Calvino with original compositions for double bass by Zé Eduardo. The artistic lineup proposes a fusion of sound and spoken word, based on texts by renowned contemporary authors such as João Luís Barreto Guimarães, Andreia C. Faria, Cláudia R. Sampaio, Nuno Júdice, and Herberto Helder.
Carvoeiro Branco, which is investing in the restoration of the Fábrica do Inglês (English Factory), has 32 projects under development in the Algarve, including real estate brands such as The Court and Primelife in Carvoeiro, and Bela Formosa in Olhão.
Attending the event
The company reiterates that access to the opening event requires mandatory prior registration via the new website and warns that seating for the open day is limited.
