“What we are doing is discouraging and prohibiting the transit and circulation of heavy goods vehicles on this road, on weekdays between 7 am and 9 pm - exceptions are regulated - with the aim of diverting this traffic to the Porto Outer Ring Road (CREP),” announced the Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, António Leitão Amaro, at a press conference after the Government meeting at Campus XXI, in Lisbon.
The Government stressed that this solution to reduce traffic on the Via de Cintura Interna (VCI) has been under study since 2025 and was coordinated with the Porto City Hall.
The goal, Leitão Amaro pointed out, is to help decongest "one of the busiest roads in the country, often congested also because of freight traffic" and, thus, "improve the quality of life for those who travel in the region and in the city of Porto".
