The alert for the fire was given at 12:52pm, in an area with difficult access, and immediately, a large deployment of firefighting resources was made to that area of scrubland and some pine forest in the parish of Noura and Palheiros, in the municipality of Murça, district of Vila Real.
Difficult access, wind, and intense heat hampered firefighting efforts throughout the afternoon.
According to a Civil Protection source, the fire entered the resolution phase at 9:4pm.
According to the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) website, at 10:30pm, 231 personnel and 72 vehicles remained on the ground.
In the early evening, the second sub-regional commander of Civil Protection in the Douro region, José Requeijo, explained that the work carried out on the ground and by aerial resources led to a positive evolution in the fight against the fire.
About a dozen aerial resources were mobilised for this incident, which were dismissed between 8:30pm and 8:40pm, when the sun set.
The fire affected an area of woods, forest, and even agricultural land.
