The investment falls under the “Regenerar Territórios – Incêndios 2024” (Regenerating Territories – 2024 Fires) support scheme, resulting from a partnership between the Municipality, the Arouca Archaeology Centre, the BioLiving Association, and Loci Studio.
The project follows research initiated at the site in 2014 by the Arouca Archaeology Centre, after which the Albergaria municipality acquired the main plot of land.
According to a municipal source, the project plans include the creation of a reception area, pedestrian paths, and informative signage, as well as improved accessibility to the site.
Notable among the ruins already uncovered are a burial mound (*mamoa*), the western wall, and two quarries, alongside a native woodland area that will also be enhanced.
The project also includes the installation, at each of these points, of eight interpretive panels, benches made of local granite, and geological sample displays, as well as the enhancement of a temporary pond.
Monte de São Julião is located in the parish of Branca, within the municipality of Albergaria-a-Velha and the district of Aveiro.
The archaeological significance of Monte de São Julião was confirmed in the 1990s, when intensive planting work brought to the surface traces of occupation dating back to the late Bronze Age, approximately 3,000 years ago.
