"Traffic was interrupted at 12:20 pm between the Guarda junction and Alto do Leomil, on the A25, and between the intersection of the town of Amoreira, in the municipality of Almeida, and Pínzio, in the municipality of Pinhel, on the EN16, due to the progression of the flames," a source from the Sub-regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command of Beiras and Serra da Estrela told the Lusa news agency.

In the case of the A25, the alternative is the National Road 221, which connects Guarda to Almeida, passing through Pinhel and Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo.

On the EN16, the alternative route recommended by the authorities is the road that connects the town of Parada (Almeida) to Rochoso and the city of Guarda.

The fire started at 1:51 pm on Monday in Rochoso (Guarda) and continues to burn on the borders of the municipalities of Guarda, Almeida and Sabugal.

Five aircraft, 390 personnel and 118 vehicles are fighting the flames.

According to a source from the Sub-regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command of Beiras and Serra da Estrela, five firefighters suffered minor injuries on Monday night while fighting the flames.
