Fire in Alentejo in resolution phase

The fire that broke out on the afternoon of 24 September in an area of scrubland and cork oak trees in the municipality of Odemira, in the district of Beja, was declared under control at 7:45 am on 25 September, the Civil Protection reported.

A source from the Sub-regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command of the Alentejo Litoral told the Lusa news agency that the fire has entered the resolution phase, although some concerns remain.

According to the same source, at 9:15 am on 25 September, the operations mobilised 473 personnel, supported by 164 vehicles and two aerial resources, a Kamov firefighting helicopter and a coordination plane.

The alert for the fire in scrubland and cork oaks in the area of Nave Redonda, parish of Sabóia, was given at 4:51 pm on 24 September.

Shortly before midnight, the operations officer of the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC), Paulo Santos, told Lusa that two firefighters were injured following an accident with a fire engine.

The same source said that, following the accident with a fire engine from the Portimão fire department, two firefighters suffered minor injuries.

The vehicle was consumed by the flames, he added.
