Destin Daniel Cretton’s film “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” broke records during its opening weekend in North America, with $360 million at the box office, surpassing “Avengers: Endgame”, according to the US press.

Figures released by Sony Pictures, which update and exceed Sunday’s estimates, show that the film grossed $360 million (around €313 million) at the box office in the United States and Canada alone, surpassing the $357 million earned by “Avengers: Endgame” in 2019.

However, globally, the opening weekend of “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” still trails behind “Avengers: Endgame”, as the latter grossed $1,200 million over the same period, compared to $932 million for the former.

The figures were welcomed with enthusiasm by Sony Pictures Group CEO Tom Rothman, who praised not only the producers, director, cast and crew but also the “incredible marketing and distribution campaign”.
