The rumours spread after reported reservations at the church, as well as at a nearby luxury hotel.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez have been together for 10 years, with a wedding proposal made a year ago, without announcing any dates to celebrate the ceremony.
Rumours mentioned by The Sun say that the wedding may take place on 8 August, suggesting that the couple would marry in Ronaldo’s hometown, with a religious ceremony at Funchal Cathedral, followed by a reception at the Savoy Palace.
The same media outlet states that local reports mention that the church was reserved for a large wedding on Saturday, with ceremonies possibly starting at around 3 pm. For the scheduled wedding, there are also rumours that the Savoy Palace, a luxury hotel in Madeira located close to the cathedral, was booked for the wedding reception and related celebrations. The Sun mentioned that the hotel said that two floors would be unavailable, as well as several bar areas.
The restrictions on booking start on 7 August, and end on 8 August, increasing the speculation that something big is being prepared in the hotel.
No confirmation
Neither Ronaldo, who is 41, nor Rodríguez, who is 32, has confirmed the reported ceremony, the Madeira location or the reservations attributed to the cathedral and hotel.
Ronaldo or Georgina did not confirm the mentioned ceremony, nor the location of the wedding. That is, as there is no formal announcement, the reports are still unverified, although there is widespread coverage in Portuguese and international media.
Members of Ronaldo’s family have denied that the wedding will take place in August, with his sister, Kátia Aveiro, saying that the ceremony was postponed.
Previous rumours stated that the wedding would take place in Sintra on 1 August, but the rumours were denied because there was no ceremony on that date.
Ronaldo’s schedule adding to the rumours
The first week of August was the date pointed out because of the player’s schedule at Al Nassr, which begins its season on 15 August. As expected, Cristiano will have to return to Saudi Arabia before the beginning of the season.
The World Cup is over, and Ronald had mentioned in the past that the wedding would only take place after the competition.
