The couple married on 11 August in Cascais, but unlike the lavish celebrity wedding many might have expected, the ceremony took place in the living room of their home with their children at the centre of the day.

Speaking to Vogue, Georgina revealed that she had once imagined getting married in a castle, wearing a long dress and a diamond crown. When the moment finally arrived, however, she wanted something much more private with Ronaldo and their children.

Only their five children and four witnesses were present for the intimate civil ceremony.

The couple also chose outfits with a personal connection to their story. Georgina wore a white Gucci silk skirt suit, while Ronaldo wore a light beige suit from the same fashion house. Their children were also dressed in Gucci.

After exchanging their vows at home, the family attended Mass together.

Vogue was given access to the celebrations, with photographer Juergen Teller capturing the family during the day.

Despite choosing a small ceremony, the couple is not ruling out a much larger celebration. They have revealed that they would like to hold a big wedding in the future, surrounded by their wider family and friends.

For Georgina, however, keeping the first ceremony at home also meant creating a memory in the place where the family lives. She told Vogue that she hopes that decades from now, their children will be able to look at the table where their parents exchanged their vows and remember what happened there.

The day after the wedding, Georgina described the ceremony to the magazine as intimate and centred around their family, adding that she had been unable to hold back her tears.

The newlyweds also opted for surprisingly simple wedding rings. The matching bands appear to be made from polished yellow gold, a much more understated choice than Georgina's large diamond engagement ring.
