Starting 13 August, FlixBus will connect Montijo to Torres Vedras, São Martinho do Porto, Nazaré, Marinha Grande, and Coimbra, allowing “residents of the region to directly access the FlixBus network from the South Bank of the Tagus River, without needing to travel to Gare do Oriente in Lisbon.”

The company also adds that from Coimbra, residents of Montijo will be able to access other destinations in the North and Central regions, such as Aveiro, Porto, and Braga, with just one road transfer.

In addition to adding Montijo to its routes, FlixBus is also arriving in São Martinho do Porto, which will further strengthen the operator's connections in the West region and to cities such as Coimbra and Lisbon, "with more schedules and new travel options departing from São Martinho do Porto, Torres Vedras, Nazaré and Marinha Grande."

New network

Tiago Cavaco Alves, Director of Operations at FlixBus in Portugal, states in a press release that "at FlixBus, we closely monitor how Portuguese people are choosing to live outside the major urban centres and we seek to adapt our network to the new mobility needs of these territories. Montijo has registered a population growth of around 20% in recent years, so the integration of the city into our network comes naturally and allows us to respond to the new mobility needs of the municipality."

For the new route arriving in Montijo, the manager highlights the municipality's collaboration in creating the new FlixBus stop, located next to the Rotunda das Portas da Cidade. Tiago Alves mentions that “the proposal to bring FlixBus to Montijo was well received by the municipal executive from the very beginning. We hope to soon increase our operation in the city and continue to strengthen the transport offer in the region, providing a more accessible, comfortable and sustainable alternative, with direct connections to various destinations and access to the national and international FlixBus network.”

Currently available with four daily schedules (two in each direction), the new route will have departures from Montijo at 11:05 am and 4:45 pm, and departures from Coimbra at 10:55 am and 5:35 pm.

“In Montijo, the FlixBus stop is located in the Portas da Cidade area, at Avenida Pedro Nunes, 17 (behind Decathlon, next to the Carris Metropolitana stop), and in São Martinho do Porto it is located on Rua Marechal Carmona (next to number 2),” the statement reads.

The company also reveals that tickets are already available for sale with prices starting at €4.49.
