The innovation was created through a collaboration between Ryukoku University and Kakinki Fireworks Industry. Trial launches showed that most shell fragments disappeared within three to four days after rainfall, offering a cleaner alternative for fireworks while helping reduce environmental impacts.

The new shells are made partly from a water-soluble resin designed to break down naturally after fireworks displays. The company has already begun manufacturing and selling the eco-friendly fireworks, which have been used at public events and are expected to feature at more displays as demand for environmentally friendly celebrations grows.
