A source from the Algarve Local Health Unit (ULS) revealed that six slightly injured people were discharged from the hospitals in Faro and Portimão, while two seriously injured people remain hospitalised in the latter.
The Basic Emergency Service (SUB) of Albufeira also received people who were injured in the hit-and-run, four of whom have already been discharged, while another four remained under observation at 4 pm, said the same source.
Among the 12 injured are two members of the National Republican Guard (GNR). The non-military victims are young people between 18 and 22 years old, according to the Ministry of Internal Administration.
The 35-year-old driver ran over people while they were on a public road in the Oura area of Albufeira, in the Faro district, a street where several bars are concentrated and which is closed to car traffic at night.
