Demand for removal services increases by around 15% in August compared to the monthly average recorded during the rest of the year, based on data from the online services platform Fixando.

The figures, reported by idealista, show that most people are not moving very far. Local moves account for 71% of all requests, meaning that the majority are relocating within the same area rather than heading to another region or country.

For many families, the summer holidays are simply the most convenient time to make the change. Parents may be able to take time off work, while children are not at school, giving everyone more time to pack, move and settle into the new home.

Moving before September can also make the transition easier for families with school-age children, particularly if the move involves a change of school or a different daily routine.

Longer days and generally better weather are another advantage, especially when furniture and boxes need to be carried between properties. However, the popularity of this period also means removal companies can become busier and may have less availability at short notice.

Anyone planning a move during the summer is therefore advised to book early and request more than one quote before making a decision.

Prices can vary considerably depending on the distance, the amount of furniture being transported and whether extra help is needed with packing, dismantling or assembling furniture.

Figures available on Fixando show that removal services have an average total price of €142, although the final amount depends on the details of each move. When charged by the hour, the average is around €44.
