Figures released by Vinci, the company that owns Portuguese airport operator ANA, show that the upward trend continued during July, when passenger numbers were 2.1% higher than a year earlier.

Portugal was among the markets recording growth within the wider Vinci Airports network, while passenger numbers fell in countries including the United Kingdom and France.

Between January and June, almost 34.8 million passengers passed through Portuguese airports, 2.6% more than during the same period last year.

Porto recorded the strongest growth among Portugal’s main airports during the first half of the year. More than 8.4 million passengers travelled through the airport between January and June, an increase of 7%.

Faro Airport handled almost 4.8 million passengers during the same period, up 3.8%, while traffic at the airports of Madeira rose by 3.1%.

Lisbon remained the country’s busiest airport, welcoming more than 17.4 million passengers during the first half of the year. This was 1.3% more than during the same six months of 2025.

The only decline was recorded in the Azores, where the four airports managed by ANA handled around 1.36 million passengers, a fall of 9.3%.

Vinci has previously highlighted new routes and stronger connections as factors supporting growth in Portugal. Porto has benefited from transatlantic flights and European routes operated by airlines including Ryanair, Transavia and TAP, while Faro has seen additional connections operated by Jet2.
