In a press release, the company states that this expansion into Portugal strengthens “its presence in a key market for electric mobility and expands charging options for those travelling across the country, whether on long-distance journeys or in urban areas.”

Zunder is establishing its presence in Portugal with a station in Caldas da Rainha, which meets “the needs of electric mobility in Portugal by facilitating long-distance journeys along the main transport corridors and enabling heavy goods vehicles to charge at specially adapted stations, as well as bringing ultra-fast charging closer to high-capacity roads.” The new charging station will be inaugurated on 11 September at 2:15 pm.

The new station is located next to junction 19 of the A8 motorway, which is one of the main routes between Lisbon and Porto. This station allows drivers to stop on the motorway and charge their vehicles quickly, “at a strategic point for long-distance journeys between the country’s two main cities.”

The facility will have “12 charging points with up to 400 kW of power, all equipped with CCS connectors.” The charging station will also feature a dedicated area for charging heavy goods vehicles, designed to meet the needs of lorries and other commercial vehicles.

The station also features a solar canopy that will protect “vehicles and users whilst charging”, whilst integrating “renewable energy generation into the infrastructure itself.”
