Águeda is certainly a creative town. As you walk through its streets, you will also find small shops selling colourful souvenirs inspired by the town’s identity, with plenty of umbrellas and other playful designs.

We visited a café which had beautiful butterfly-themed displays and afterwards took a photo on one of the large coloured benches in the town centre.

The flowers are included in the artistic displays associated with AgitÁgueda, the town's annual summer festival. While Águeda is most famous for its Umbrella Sky Project, the decorations extend well beyond umbrellas and are altered over time, so that each year something new is brought to the streets.

The municipality refers to Águeda as "the most colourful city in the world”. Many of these installations are seasonal, so whenever you visit Águeda, there could be an entirely new surprise for you. This year's summer decorations will stay up until 30 September.
