The measure provides exceptional support to compensate for income losses from storms earlier in the year, with the application window open from 7 October to 30 October.

Applications must be submitted via a form on the Institute for the Financing of Agriculture and Fisheries (IFAP) portal; the aid covers farmers in the sectors of open-field annual crops, greenhouse crops, pig farming, and dairy farming.

Eligibility conditions

The Government emphasises that applicants must meet the specific eligibility conditions set out for each type of aid and that payments will be made in accordance with established criteria and requirements.

At least 19 people died in Portugal between late January and early March following the passage of low-pressure systems Kristin, Leonardo, and Marta, which also left hundreds of people injured, homeless, or displaced. More than half of the deaths occurred during recovery operations.

The storms, which battered the mainland for approximately three weeks—particularly the Central, Lisbon and Tagus Valley, and Alentejo regions—caused the total or partial destruction of thousands of homes, businesses, and facilities. They also led to fallen trees and structures, disruptions to power, water, and communications, and flooding, resulting in damages exceeding five billion euros.
