The new road connects the industrial area of Vale da Arrancada with the EN125, providing an alternative route for drivers travelling into and out of Portimão.

Portimão City Council invested around €700,000 in the new road, which is expected to ease traffic around the hospital, especially during busy hours.

Until now, many drivers heading towards Vale da Arrancada, Coca Maravilhas and the surrounding business areas have had to use the road near Portimão Hospital. This has often resulted in heavy traffic, especially during rush hour.

With the opening of the new connection, motorists now have another option, which is expected to reduce pressure on one of the city's busiest access routes.

The new road should also make travelling easier for commercial vehicles heading towards the industrial area, allowing them to reach their destinations without having to pass through some of the more congested parts of the city.

As reported by Algarve Marafado, the road officially opened to traffic on 3 November, after the final paving and road markings were completed.

However, drivers should be aware of changes to the traffic system in the surrounding area.

Part of Rua do Parque Industrial has become a one-way street. Motorists travelling from Nova Vila Retail Park can continue straight ahead, but those travelling in the opposite direction will need to follow an alternative route.

Drivers approaching from the industrial area must use the roundabout, continue along Rua José Guerreiro de Matos, take the second left and then turn right to access the new road.

The project has been in development for some time and its completion comes later than originally planned.

When the works were announced in April 2024, the municipality expected construction to begin that August, with completion scheduled for early 2025.

However, the project experienced delays, which Portimão Mayor Álvaro Bila previously attributed to difficulties involving the electrical infrastructure.

Work went ahead in the months leading up to the opening, with the final layer of asphalt and the road markings all completed just prior to the opening.

The new connection is expected to benefit not only residents but also businesses operating in Vale da Arrancada and Coca Maravilhas, where easier access to the EN125 could make daily journeys and deliveries more convenient.

For drivers travelling regularly between Portimão and other parts of the Algarve, the additional access route could also help improve traffic distribution around the city.

The new entrance is located beside Nova Vila Retail Park, making it easy to identify for motorists already familiar with the shopping area.
