Motto “Here to Help” could be shared equally by friends “Mayday” an association for abandoned animals, private and relying completely on donations from their community. Idyllic, nestling in Vila da Bispo is the sanctuary created by Karen and her husband. The team of volunteers are willing to help too.
Recently taking on lodgers and paying borders from Pet Park which was suddenly closed by its owner just before Christmas. Jenny Clarke President of APAA’s distress call hit Mayday just in time to take on the enormous task of helping out Pet Park’s abandoned animals and dog handlers Tom and Kat. “It was a miracle that Mayday could help at such short notice and with minimum fuss!”

The owners of paying borders will make a donation, agreed with Karen for the pet(s) in their care. A pick-up and drop-off service is also offered by arrangement. Kennels and Cattery are sensibly arranged for their pets’ needs. Dry, warm and comfortable. Good solid beds with soft cushions and blankets. Cattery is arranged with play trees and platforms, toys and sneak-in rooms for sleeping. All accommodation has open corridors, walks and garden area and sun-beds for the furry canine friends. Walks and free run/play time two/three times a day. For Karen and team it was a new beginning which has taken on an extended shape and purpose for their sanctuary.
News of nervous abandoned Amigo, his life has taken on a new step. After being chipped, SNiP’d and pronounced ready he will travel to Ruth’s shelter Cadela Carlota just outside of Odaxiere where he will enjoy one-to-one training with Gail Skinner, dog behaviourist and trainer.
