The monthly data released show that cinema screenings in February generated €5.7 million in gross box office revenue, an increase of 13.3% compared to February 2025.
The sum of January and February this year resulted in 2.1 million viewers and €14.5 million in revenue from cinema screenings.
This total figure represents a 13% increase in audience numbers and a 21.5% increase in box office revenue compared to the first two months of 2025.
The ICA also compared exhibitor data, highlighting a sharp decline at Cineplace, which was the subject of insolvency proceedings that led to the closure of all the cinemas it operated. The decline was over 80% in revenue and audience compared to January and February 2025.
Nitrato Filmes, which operates Cinema Trindade in Porto, also recorded an 18.2% drop-in box-office revenue this year, to a total of €117,000, and a 16.2% drop in audience numbers, totalling 20,906 admissions.
NOS Lusomundo Cinemas remains the market leader in exhibition with €10.2 million in revenue, an increase of 31.7% compared to the first two months of 2025. In terms of audience, there was a 23.8% increase between periods, with a total of 1.4 million viewers in 2026.
The most watched film by the Portuguese at the start of 2026 was Paul Feig's “The Handmaid's Tale”, with 534,182 viewers in January and February.










I think you meant to mention Paul Feig's "The Housemaid," not "The Handmaid's Tale."
