The milestone fulfils Croatia’s obligations under the Ottawa Convention banning anti-personnel mines, and the clearance marks a major step in post-war recovery and national safety. Croatia will continue mine risk education and share its experience with other countries.

Landmines were left from the 1990s Homeland War, contaminating large areas, and the demining process lasted more than three decades and required significant financial resources. Large areas of previously contaminated land have now been cleared and made safe for use.
