The free event takes place on 23 May and will transform the historic castle into an immersive nighttime experience inspired by different periods of Portuguese history.
From 9:30pm, visitors will be welcomed with a comedic circus performance by artists from Chapitô. Throughout the evening, themed dance performances inspired by the work of playwright Gil Vicente will recreate scenes from royal court celebrations dating back to the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries.
Historical reenactments will also bring medieval life inside the castle walls back to life, including demonstrations centred around the soldiers of King D. Afonso Henriques. Visitors will be able to explore recreated medieval tents, armour displays, and scenes showing daily life before battle.
Guided nighttime tours of the castle’s Islamic archaeological remains will also take place at several points during the evening, giving visitors a closer look at the preserved structures hidden within the fortress walls.
