The Mayor of Moura, Álvaro Azedo, and the National Coordinator for Child Protection, Sónia Almeida, have signed the Partnership Protocol for the Implementation and Monitoring of the Local Child Guarantee Unit of Moura (NLGIM), Sul Informação reports.
The creation of the Local Child Guarantee Unit in Moura seeks to “ensure integrated, community-based, and coordinated social intervention among the different entities operating in the territory,” according to the municipality.
The unit comprises the Moura Municipal Council, Comoiprel (CLDS), the Nossa Senhora do Carmo Children’s Centre, Moura Salúquia – Association of Women of the Municipality of Moura, the Moura Health Centre, ADC Moura, Moura Atlético Clube, the Moura School Group, the Social Security Institute – Moura Nucleus, the CPCJ of Moura and the Union of Parishes of Moura and Santo Amador.
“Among the main objectives of the unit are the realisation and updating of the local diagnosis of child poverty and social exclusion, the identification and mobilisation of resources necessary to respond to the identified problems, and the definition of integrated and participatory intervention strategies,” the Moura City Council said.
Supporting vulnerable children
The protocol “also foresees the development of a community-based intervention with children and young people in situations of social vulnerability and their families, promoting equal access to essential services in the areas of education and early childhood, health, healthy food and adequate housing.”
NLGIM’s work “will also involve coordination between public, private and social sector entities, promoting information and awareness-raising actions in the community regarding issues of child poverty and social exclusion, and developing initiatives that promote knowledge of the rights of children and young people, their participation and civic engagement.”
