According to data from Portugal’s medicines authority, Infarmed, more than 2,300 packages of the two drugs are sold on average every day. Between January and March alone, people in Portugal spent €55.2 million on the treatments.
The biggest share came from Mounjaro, developed by Eli Lilly, with more than 167,000 units sold in the first three months of the year. Wegovy sales also remained strong, with over 42,000 packages sold during the same period.
Both medications belong to a newer class of drugs known as GLP-1 receptor agonists, which are being widely used for obesity treatment and weight management worldwide. Despite their high cost and the fact that they are not covered by Portugal’s National Health Service (SNS), demand continues to grow rapidly.
In 2025 alone, Portuguese consumers spent more than €130 million on the two medications, buying over half a million packages, around 1,200 per day.
