Get ready for a wind of change – What to expect this Pentecost

As in past years on Pentecost Sunday, Christ The King Anglican Church in Almancil is hosting a number of Churches from around the Algarve to join together in welcoming the Holy Spirit and celebrate the birthday of the Church. As

As has happened in past years, many different voices in English, Portuguese, Spanish, Nepalese and Romanian will be raised in Praise, worship and expectant joy as they wait to see what the Holy Spirit will bring to their lives, because Pentecost is all about expectation and what God’s power can do in our daily lives.

It’s the time to expect the unexpected. Just like in the Book of Acts where the Holy Spirit descended as a mighty wind and tongues of fire and turned frightened Disciples into bold world changing leaders, we anticipate the Holy Spirit moving in our lives, bringing courage to our fears and a renewed energy in our lives of faith.

Pentecost is all about empowerment, it’s a major reminder that we are not doing this alone. It reminds us that the Holy Spirit is our ultimate Helper – arriving to guide and comfort and enables us to live out our purpose. It challenges us to look at our faith not as a solo race but as a community empowered to love our neighbours in concrete ways.

So what are you expecting this Pentecost? A deeper sense of peace? A new direction in your life? Or maybe the strength and courage to make the next step. Whatever it is come and join us, trusting that the same spark that ignited the early Church over 2000 years ago will arrive and set your own heart ablaze.

Join us on Sunday 24 May at 19:00 in the Jardim das Comunidades, Almancil for an open air, multi denominational and multilingual service of prayer, music, worship and praise.

The service will reflect the diversity of Christian traditions, Languages and customs as we are reminded of the Holy Spirit descending upon the Disciples of Jesus as they waited in the upper room. Guests will be encouraged to sing and pray in their native languages, celebrating the unity and richness of our shared faith.
