God is merciful and desires to heal, restore and support those who are suffering from loss, heartbreak, anxiety, fear, guilt, shame, or depression. The third person of the Trinity is called the Holy Spirit and he is the Spirit of Jesus that is present to surround you with God‘s comfort and love when you are going through the most difficult times of life. His name in the original Greek text is “the one called alongside in order to help”. The Holy Spirit, is also known as “the Comforter”.
God is incredibly merciful, and when a person comes to the end of themself and prays in humility “God I need your help” he will most certainly answer. The key is what happens in your heart when you go through loss, trials difficulties, and adverse circumstances. Do you open your heart or do you harden your heart to God?
Your response will make all the difference.
He may not answer exactly as you expect or want and maybe not in your exact timing, but if you turn to God in humility, he will answer you. Sometimes God‘s mercy means that you don’t get what you want because it would permanently harm you.
Jesus' ministry lasted three years of teaching, healing, performing miracles, casting out demons and raising the dead. His love and compassion was considered scandalous by the religious leaders of Israel, because he showed mercy to even a woman caught in the act of adultery. He broke the religious tradition of the elders to show them the righteous expression of God’s character.
Jesus' greatest battle was always with the self-righteous religious leaders whose whole focus was their own position, power and prestige.
Bad Experience with the church?
Perhaps you’ve had a bad experience with something that was called “church“. I know many who have, in addition to myself. I always felt closer to God out in the woods than I ever did in a church building until I connected, spiritually with Jesus and found an accurate representation of a New Testament Church. Having a relationship with God through Jesus Christ has nothing to do with an institution, organisation or a particular church whether it be Catholic or Protestant. Human beings can corrupt church structures and misrepresent Jesus through a moral, compromise involving power, pride, money or control. Unfortunately, this sometimes stumbles sincere individuals who are not looking directly to God, but trusting in a church structure.
The most important thing is that you pursue a direct relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Jesus said “So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” Humans will always let you down, but Jesus never will. He is faithful and true, and if you turn to him with an open heart & mind in prayer you will not be turned away or taken advantage of.
I had a rather poor view of the church when I was growing up and didn’t realise that I was actually attending a place with my parents that was devoid of the Holy Spirit. It was like religious services without Jesus being there .
I had had an encounter with Jesus when I was just four years old and I knew that he was in that particular Sunday school class, but after that, it seemed clear that Jesus wasn’t in the church that we went to after we moved . It wasn’t until I eventually met some real Christians who truly exemplified the kindness, goodness and compassion of God that I opened my heart again to spiritual input. When I did, the teachings of the Bible opened up to me and suddenly became clear.
You may or may not have any kind of church background and that really doesn’t matter, because the Creator of the universe loves you, cares about you and has a plan for your life.
