However, those hoping to shop there this summer will have to wait a little longer.
The first Algarve store is scheduled to open in October at Nova Vila Retail Park in Portimão. A few weeks later, in November, Mercadona will open its first supermarket in Faro.
The Faro store is being built in the Vale da Amoreira/Cerro do Bruxo area and will feature around 1,900 square metres of sales space. Like the chain’s other locations, it will include sections dedicated to fresh meat, fish, delicatessen products, bakery and pastry items, fruit and vegetables, beauty and personal care products, household goods, pet supplies, and a wine cellar.
Customers will also have access to Mercadona’s popular “Ready to Eat” section, offering a range of freshly prepared meals available for takeaway or for on-site enjoyment.
The Algarve openings form part of the company’s continued growth strategy in Portugal. Mercadona currently operates more than 70 supermarkets nationwide and expects to end the year with 81 stores.
With the launch of the Portimão and Faro locations, the Spanish retailer will officially establish a presence in the Algarve, bringing its well-known shopping concept to one of Portugal’s most visited regions.
