The request for reassessment of the decree, sent to the President of the Assembly of the Republic and dated 15 June, was released by the party and is signed by the parliamentary leader, Pedro Pinto.

In the request, Chega asks "as soon as possible, for a review of Decree of the Assembly of the Republic No. 70/XVII - Rules for the use of flags in public buildings".

In a short note accompanying the request, Chega argues that "the only flag that unites all Portuguese people is the national flag, and that is the only one that public buildings should display, free from any ideological instrumentalisation".

The decree, which had been approved in April with votes from the PSD, Chega, and CDS-PP parties, was vetoed last week by the President of the Republic.

The very next day, the president of Chega defended Parliament's confirmation of the decree, arguing that there is a sufficient majority for it.

The Constitution establishes that if "the Assembly of the Republic confirms the vote by an absolute majority of the deputies in office, the President of the Republic must promulgate the decree within eight days of its receipt."
