The Public Prosecutor's Office has asked Parliament's 15th Committee to remove the parliamentary immunity of the three MPs; a vote on this is due in September, which will allow formal investigative action to proceed.
The case goes back to July, when André Ventura uploaded a video to social media in which his workplace was found in a state of disorder, with cabinets left open and documents spread out on the floor. The leader of Chega referred to the incident as an act of intimidation and violence intended for the purpose of stealing documents concerning the Minister of Internal Administration, Luís Neves, and once again called for the official to be removed from office.
The attention on the Minister stems from strong political pressure and several investigations into his time as National Director of the PJ. The investigations involve an audit carried out by the Inspectorate-General of Justice Services, an internal inquiry conducted by the Judicial Police itself, a criminal investigation launched by the Public Prosecutor’s Office concerning the whereabouts of a seized trailer, and a preliminary inquiry carried out by the European Public Prosecutor’s Office with regard to the management of contracts financed by the European Union.
