Located near Praia do Vau, one of the region’s most popular beaches, the development marks the debut of the internationally recognised hospitality brand in Portugal and forms part of its continued expansion across Europe. The hotel is being developed through a partnership between Hard Rock International and Mercan Properties.

The new resort will feature approximately 275 rooms and suites, alongside 150 branded serviced apartments. Guests will have direct access to the beach and a range of facilities including multiple restaurants and bars, outdoor swimming pools, a spa, fitness centre, sports facilities and a beach club.

Portimão was selected for the project due to its strong tourism appeal, extensive coastline and growing international profile. Praia do Vau, where the hotel is located, is known for its dramatic cliffs, golden sands and clear waters, attracting visitors from across Europe throughout the year.

The arrival of the Hard Rock brand is expected to further strengthen the Algarve’s position as a destination for international tourism and hospitality investment. Industry representatives have previously highlighted the project as an opportunity to attract new visitors while creating jobs and boosting the local economy.

Hard Rock Hotels currently operates in destinations around the world, combining accommodation with entertainment, dining and lifestyle experiences. The Portimão opening will add Portugal to the brand’s growing global portfolio and represent its first hotel development in the country.

The project has been several years in development and is one of the most anticipated hotel openings in the Algarve, bringing a globally recognised name to one of Portugal’s leading tourism regions.
