According to the 2025 National Health Survey by the INE, lower back pain affected 3.2 million residents aged 15 or older last year, almost a third of the population studied, and is also one of the chronic diseases that most affects young people (25 to 34 years old).

“Also relevant were the proportions of people who reported having high blood pressure (25.6%), high cholesterol (23.8%), neck pain or other chronic neck problems (21.6%), allergies (20.2%), and osteoarthritis (19%),” highlighted IBGE in the results of the survey conducted in the 4th quarter of 2025.

According to INE, each of the six main chronic diseases mentioned affected a higher proportion of women than men, especially osteoarthritis (25.9% of women and 11.8% of men), neck pain (27.8% of women and 15.1% of men), and lower back pain (37.1% of women and 26.1% of men).

The data also reveal that in 2025, more than half of the adult population (57.1%) was overweight or obese, defined as a body mass index (BMI) of 25 kg/m2 or more.

Obesity and pre-obesity affected 1.7 million and 3.8 million people aged 18 or older, respectively.
