In a statement published on its website, the Portuguese ministry said this is the second donation, after a first shipment of eight tons that followed in July and included antibiotics, analgesics, antipyretics, and medicines used to treat cardiovascular diseases, among others.

"The Venezuelan health system remains under pressure following the earthquakes, currently at a stage where it is particularly important to ensure the continuity of care and regular access to medicines and other essential health products," it stressed.

According to the Ministry of Health, the transport of this second donation was carried out under the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism, with 25% of the costs borne by the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Health and the remainder by the European Commission.

The pharmaceutical companies Reckitt, Medinfar, Bene, and Atral/Humanova provided approximately three tons of medicines.

The double earthquake of 24 June caused serious damage to infrastructure, injuries, and fatalities in seven Venezuelan states: Caracas, Miranda, Aragua, Carabobo, Lara, Yaracuy, and La Guaira, the latter being the most affected.
