The Portugal News offers an excellent opportunity for students interested in following a management career path and be able to gain the base experience needed for a better comprehension of the corporate world. The ability to focus the program on my preferred department helped me reflect on my future career aspirations and higher-education choices.
I have a very positive view of my experience at TPN, as it was very dynamic and staff members were always open to responding to my inquiries with clear guidance. I spent a lot of time understanding the work behind the magazine layouts and the differences between each publication, along with watching the reviewing and editorial process before it gets published.
On my first day, I was greeted by Lucy Musk, Chief Operating Officer. I spent my morning discussing Sales and Advertising as well as studying the media kit provided. Afterwards, I attended the weekly staff meeting where I observed the commission structure and the use of financial incentives as a motivating tool. This gave me an excellent first impression of TPN and motivated me to make the most of the rest of my placement, having spoken to all staff members throughout the following days.

Although the program lasted only one week, I was soon encouraged by the opportunity to continue developing my knowledge in sales and advertising over the summer.
The professionalism of TPN's managers was evident throughout my placement. At the same time, the size of the workforce creates a collaborative environment in which employees demonstrate commitment to the production of each weekly edition. Respect for the company's values and an inclusive working environment are crucial for a news organisation that delivers content to both local and international audiences.
This week-long experience has exposed me to many useful insights within the media
industry and will be valuable as I continue my academic and professional journey.
I would like to thank the whole team for having me at the office and for the valuable guidance given by each department throughout the week. I am also thankful for all the conversations with each staff member and their recommendations.
