The IPMA has also placed around 70 municipalities in the districts of Viana do Castelo, Braga, Vila Real, Viseu, Bragança, Guarda, Coimbra, Santarém, Castelo Branco, Portalegre and Faro at very high risk.

More than 60 municipalities in the districts of Viana do Castelo, Braga, Porto, Aveiro, Coimbra, Vila Real, Viseu, Leiria, Santarém, Lisbon, Portalegre, Évora, Beja and Faro are also at high risk of fire.

According to the Institute, the fire risk will remain high at least until Monday, the day when practically the entire country will be at maximum or very high risk.

The rural fire risk determined by IPMA has five levels, ranging from reduced to maximum. The calculations are based on air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, and the amount of precipitation in the previous 24 hours.

IPMA forecasts for 24 July on the mainland mostly clear or partly cloudy skies, morning cloudiness, especially on the west coast, generally light winds from the west quadrant and a slight decrease in maximum temperature in the interior North and Centre and a slight increase on the south coast of the Algarve.

Minimum temperatures will vary between 15 degrees Celsius (Guarda) and 20 degrees (Faro), and maximum temperatures between 24 degrees (Viana do Castelo) and 35 degrees (Castelo Branco, Évora and Faro).
